Elves on The Rock Press Release

Elves on the Rock, a group of local Bainbridge Islanders, has gathered donations with a total value in excess of $10,000, including gifts of toys, clothing, groceries, and basic necessities. The group was founded to address the immediate needs at the local level. Said Joe Wettleson, one of the group’s founders, “we just want to be in the Christmas spirit of neighbors helping neighbors.” Another group Elf, Greg Beemer, recalls that his parents along with many other old island families did something similar in the 60’s and 70’s, and is glad to see it resurrected.

The group consists of many individuals that are active in the community and with a pulse on where and who may be experiencing difficulty or otherwise may have gone without assistance this holiday season. Additionally, other community members aware of the group’s intent nominated families that were then vetted by committee. What started in early December as a hope to reach a few families grew quickly thanks to the outpouring of support from Bainbridge residents as well as businesses and even some outside of the immediate area. The majority of donations were gathered from community members with an open call to drop off donations of goods to Bainbridge Self Storage and through an online auction with a wide variety of local businesses, artists, and individuals showing their support with donated items. Many were bid far beyond their value, and a couple of very generous donors gifted in addition to the bids for the items they’d won. With such tremendous support, the group was able to provide holiday cheer to more than 35 households as well as provide for ongoing support for the homeless. Gifts provided to families and individuals were based on number of household members, need, and ability to fulfill those needs with donated goods and services.

Elves on the Rock plans to be around next year for Christmas giving and will likely plan and administer other events during the course of the year.

Make Christmas Brighter

Dear Friends,

Help make Christmas a little brighter on Bainbridge Island. A group of us recently established Elves on the Rock to help families and kids to have a better holiday this year.

It is exciting to see the momentum the Elves have generated so far, but unfortunately we are aware of far more need than we have the resources to address today…and the clock is running out to have an impact in time for Christmas. We are seeking donations, items or services to auction and cash contributions to help improve the holidays for others.

If you’d like to help, visit our Elves on the Rock and Elves on the Rock Auction event pages on Facebook, or make an instant pay donation with the friends and family option at PayPal using elvesontherock@yahoo.com.

The Eagle Harbor Inn & Eagle Harbor Electric Boat has graciously donated!

From Bonnie McBryan

As the owners of The Eagle Harbor Inn and the Eagle Harbor Electric Boat my husband, Cihan Anisoglu, and I will donate some gift certificates to Elves on the Rock. We are hoping that some others will join us with certificates for a meal at a restaurant, a massage, or maybe a gift from a local store. This is a fast turnaround — so you can do a little Christmas shopping at an on-line auction for some local families in need. What do you think? Would you donate? Or would you buy a gift certificate?

What We Need Your Help With!

We would like to start a community-wide holiday tradition on Bainbridge Island called Elves on The Rock. We appeal to the Elf in all of you to make this happen. We extend an open invitation to all Islanders as well as friends and family who may live off-Island. Our hope is to make the holidays brighter for Island families. Six families have currently been selected and, if donations allow, we will attempt to accommodate others.

Our six families include ten adults and 15 children. Boys ages include: 22,18,16,12, 9, and 7. Girls ages include:
1 1/2 ,4, 12, 13, 14, 15, and 16.

Please drop off new unwrapped items at Bainbridge Self Storage at 9300 Sportsman Club Road. They are volunteering to be our main drop point and are open 7 days per week. You can reach them at 206-855-9500. We are accepting new unwrapped toys, gifts, gift cards, cash, clothing, food, wrapping paper, and tape. We will also be sharing a paypal account on this event page where you can make donations through your paypal account. We will be accepting donations from now through December 18th.

Elves On The Rock Christmas Auction

Elves on The Rock are hosting an online auction to help raise money in order to help families on the Island enjoy the holidays. We will start posting auction items on Tuesday morning at 9am and will add items as we get donations in. The auction will end on Friday at 9pm.This will be a great way you can support your neighbors for the holidays while also being able to purchase a special gift for someone in your life or something for yourself. You will be able to pay for your items either by cash or through our paypal instant pay account at elvesontherock@yahoo.com. Auction items will be picked up at Best Western Plus Bainbridge Island Suites on Saturday December 20 from 10-3. You will show your ID for pick up and pay cash if you have not already paid through paypal. If other arrangements need to be made you can contact Linda at Best Western.

We already have more than a dozen items donated that will go up for auction. Some of the items will be a night stay at the beautiful The Eagle Harbor Inn – A Petite Hotel on Bainbridge Island and two Boating trips gifted by Eagle Harbor Electric Boat Rentals. A packaged Family Stay from Best Western Plus Bainbridge Island Suites that will include 2 tickets to Bainbridge Performing Arts, 4 passes to Kidimu and passes to Bainbridge Island Aquatics Center will be another great item. There will also be teeth whitening from Viking Dental, three 90-minute massages, a haircut and style from Carol Coffey at Ericksen Avenue Salon, and gifts from PrettyStick Beauty as well as Soup’r Burger. More information about these great items and any new ones will be added to this page throughout the week so stay tuned.

We will ask that you make your bids in the comments. We hope that items will be bringing in their estimated value amount and you are welcome to bid beyond that amount as well. Highest bidders will win at the closing of bidding at 9pm on Friday the 19th. If by chance, someone is unable to pay by paypal or cash by Saturday at 3pm, the items will then be offered to the next bidder in line until sold. It is important that we receive all funds by Saturday at 3 so we are able to purchase the items needed for the families we are helping for the holidays.

You are also welcome to simply make a donation at any time to our paypal instant pay account at elvesontherock@yahoo.com

Contact any host if you have an auction item to donate!
Thank you in advance and stay tuned to this page. Also, please share the event with all your friends, family and facebook pages you are a part of.
